fall off the face of the Earthの意味とは？
フランシスが、面会者が来ていると知らされて会いに行くと、そこには自分の前から姿を消したポールがいました。

fell off the face of the Earthは、「完全に消える」、「地球上から姿を消す」という意味になります。
the face of the Earthは、地球の顔ではなく、「地球上」という意味です。
「人や物がどこにも存在しない」、または「見つからない」、「連絡がつかない」という状態を強調する時に使われます。
The whole tribe seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. 部族全体が完全に消えたようだ
Even if i could fall off the face of the earth tomorrow, nobody would notice. たとえ私が明日いなくなっても、誰も気づかないだろう
